This page will show my meager efforts to make fire starters.

Yes, you can buy them but this is pretty easy and pretty cheap.

The starters also work great!

Here is what I used and how I used them.

Cardboard Egg cartons. These work great and will help get it started.

In this example I used Tea light candles. About $2.50 at Walmart for 50.

You can use any candle, this is just 1 example.

Shown is 1 empty Egg carton and 1 filled with shavings.

You also need pine shavings. The kind you get for a hamster cage.

About $2 from Walmart.

You will need something to pour the wax.

I chose a large measuring cup as it is glass and has a pour spout.

Now that we have everything we need, we can get started.

Put the pine chips in and pack them down.

Now there are many ways to melt wax.

What I do is I took a Griddle I no longer use. This one has a temperature setting on it.

I put the temp at 250.

When the wax has melted, I pour it into the glass measuring cup.

Then I pour it into the pine shavings slowly.

Be sure to cover the shavings! It will soak in very well so you may need to go back over it.

Below is a picture of the end result.

The left side has not dried yet.

To use, just break off a section and light it.

Each of these will burn for about 15-20 minutes.
